How the Moloni ON API simplifies your team's work

Moloni
The best tips for your business.
Content designed to support entrepreneurs and businesses in managing, generating revenue and growing their business.
At Moloni ON, we believe that invoicing software should be the engine — not the brake — of your business. That’s why we’ve launched a new documentation area for our API. But what actually is it, and how does it help you save time?
The API as your digital "bridge"
Imagine that the API is a bridge that allows your website or your application to "speak" directly with Moloni ON. Whenever something happens on one side, the other is notified and acts immediately.
But what exactly is what?
So that you can speak the same language as your developer, we’ve provided a simple explanation of the three pillars you’ll find in our new area:
- API (The interface): Imagine you go to a restaurant. You are the customer, and the kitchen is Moloni ON. The API is the waiter: they take your order to the kitchen and bring you the answer (or the invoice). It is what allows two different systems to communicate in an organised way.
- API Client (The identifier): For the "bridge" to work, Moloni ON needs to know who is trying to connect to it. The API Client acts like the digital ID card for your application or online shop. It identifies that "application X has permission to talk to us".
- API Key (The access key): If the Client is the identification, the API Key is the door key. It is a unique and secret code that ensures only those with this key can enter and perform actions on your account (such as issuing invoices or checking stock). It’s what ensures the total security of your data.
3 ways to transform your day-to-day:
1. Invoicing on autopilot: If you sell online, the invoice can be generated at the moment of the sale, without anyone having to press a button.
2. Stock always accurate: Sell a product on your website and Moloni ON updates the inventory straight away.
3. Integration with external tools: Do you want to connect your logistics software or your CRM? With the new guides and access keys (API Keys), the process is now much simpler and more fluid.
The path to success
We have created this documentation with step-by-step explanatory guides. It is the ideal starting point for any developer who wants to create bespoke solutions for your company.
